Reporting Suspected Abuse
The Catholic Diocese of Salina is committed to protecting children and young people. All clergy, staff, educators, and volunteers are educated on how to prevent child sexual abuse, how to recognize sex offender behaviors, and how to create safe environments for children and young people in our parishes, schools and community.
Anyone working or volunteering in a Catholic parish or school, who knows or has reason to believe that a minor or vulnerable adult is or has been abused or neglected, please report to proper civil authorities/law enforcement as soon as possible.
The Diocese of Salina’s Victim Assistance Coordinator is available to help you or anyone who has been abused or victimized by someone representing the Catholic Church. We will listen to your needs and support you. We will help you make a formal complaint and arrange a personal meeting with the bishop or his delegate, if desired. We offer community resources, counseling for individual and families, and recognize the needs of parishes, schools, and other entities who may have been affected.

Does the old seminar still count or do I need to do the CMGConnect training?
The old seminar (VIRTUS or the Video) is sufficient until your background check needs to be renewed. At which time, you will need to do the training and background check through CMGconnect.
-
I did my background check before for the Salina Diocese, why do I have to do it again?
In the past, every 5 years your background check was automatically renewed if you were still an active volunteer in St. Thomas More programs involving children or youth. Since the diocese changed to this system, you now need to do the online forms to renew the background check (and training) every 5 years.
-
I need to RENEW my background check and training but I don't know my login information?
Any volunteer that completed VIRTUS or the old video training was added to the new system so if you are receiving an email letting you know your certification is expiring you are in CMG Connect (the new system). Please DO NOT create a NEW login as the diocese wishes to track your training history and not have multiples of people in the database.

I did my background check in another diocese. Do I need to do it again for Salina Diocese?
The Salina Diocese does not accept background checks from other dioceses.
-
I have completed VIRTUS training in another diocese will that suffice?
The Diocese of Salina does not use VIRTUS any more therefore we are unable accept VIRTUS training from another diocese. You will need to do our training and background check.
-
Do you accept Kansas Teaching License for CATHOLIC school teachers?
YES! We will continue to accept Kansas Teaching License for Catholic School teachers in the Diocese for background checks as they are tracked through our Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
-
I am a Kansas PUBLIC School teacher can you use that background check?
The company that does the background check for the Diocese of Salina rescreens all church personnel and/or volunteers quarterly. Because of that, the diocese will no longer accept a Kansas Teaching License for Public School teachers as their background check for the Diocese. We feel this quarterly check is an excellent tool and we need to be able to "track" our public school teachers in the same way as all other clergy, volunteers, and employees of the Diocese.
